I play a
Montagnana style cello which is typically a darker sounding instrument compared
to a Stradivari style cello. It has a French style bridge vs. the typical
Belgium style bridge which adds to the "warmth" of the cello. I'm
using Pirastro Perpetual Edition (Medium) strings.

found that the C string can be slower to respond and sometimes a bit muddy
sounding when playing notes on it other than the open string. I replaced the
Carbon Fiber end pin, which I suspect was more resin than carbon, with the
Mitsuke Triple Brilliant end pin. Immediately, the cello not only maintained
the dark, warm sound but also a massive increase in resonance. The C string is
now much quicker to respond and has a crisp sound when playing notes on it. All
of the strings when played open, ring much more than they did before the end
pin change. If you're wondering if the upgrade is worth the cost, I say YES,
YES, YES! My cello has never sounded better! As each cello is different, you
mileage may vary.

Honestly
incredible. It really does some wonderful things to tone and responsiveness to
the whole cello. I've been trying to find the "right" balance for
chamber and solo playing with my instruments, and doing a back to back
comparison between my old carbon fiber endpin and this are just night and day.
The upper register of my cello (particularly notes by the fingerboard) are MUCH
more resonant, on all strings but particularly the A and D strings. I had
always had an issues getting the high C in Piatti 7 to speak well and still
have the bass notes resonate and this just balanced that in a beautiful way. I
don't know how this fairs for orchestral balancing, but I don't really play
anything besides chamber music professionally so I can't really say much on
that.
